Two weeks ago we went to the nursery to pick put our new trees. I think the economy is hitting the nursery business too because there were awesome deals. We scored 2 trees and some vines and got delivery thrown in for free. Nice.
Last weekend we planted the trees. Last weekend it was also 90 degrees and we were not quite used to being in that just yet.
One of the trees was going where Brian's avocado tree was. That stupid tree did not do well at all. The fact that it is not dead is truly amazing. It got sunburned even through the shade cloth we surrounded it with last summer. This tree became a thorn in my side. I need a tree that will be tall and full and provide shade. That tree was actually shrinking as the limbs would burn and fall off. Ugh.
So of course, right before we want to dig it out and throw it away, the damn thing flowers. Flowers! Now our interest is peaked. Flowers on a fruit tree=fruit. Will this tree actually provide Brian with the avocados he longs for? Great, now we have to keep it. Well it was still coming out of the ground, we will just throw it in a big pot (just like you wanted mom).
As the sun beat down on us we proceeded to plant a mesquite tree and a palo verde tree. I love my new trees.
Our new mesquite
We planted the avocado in a pot and put in among the palm trees. The filtered sun should be good for it and no burning. Stupid tree.
Stupid avocado tree
Next project is to build a trellis and plant the vines. Next time you come and visit you will enjoy some lovely flowers outside your bedroom window.
