Anyway...Brian and I have made a list of places in AZ we want to see. This state has a lot to offer. Sometimes we will find ourselves sitting around on a Sunday wondering why we aren't out exploring.
Well we have begun our travels with Monument Valley. Last weekend we decided to make the trip up to the that part of the state and see the famous rock formations.
We knew there would not be too much to do in the area, so we only went for one night. Monument Valley is on Navajo land. You cannot drive or hike around the area unless you hire a guide. Smart, those Indians (feathers not dots).
We loaded the truck and headed up north. It only took about 5 hours to get there. We settled into our camp site and then hit the Monument Valley loop. It is the only road you can drive on your own. Its 17 miles of dirt road around the large rock spires.

It was beautiful, but a little disappointing. In the movies it just seems bigger, or more, or something. We both sorta felt like it lacked something. The red rocks were lovely and the red mud on my truck was even lovelier.

Sunday morning we decided to leave early and make a few other stops. We stopped once to see old ruins in a canyon and then we stopped at Sunset Crater. That place was cool. It has lava fields and a crater you could hike to. We were regular tourists.

Next on the list is Lake Powell or maybe Bisbee, or the lava tubes in Flagstaff. So much to choose from.
