Maynard came to Arizona to make wine and Eric was already here making it. The movie is great and I recommend you throw it on your netflix queue now. You learn a little more about Maynard and you really start to want to drive up to Jerome and find him and be his friend.
Well that is what Brian and I did this weekend. Ok maybe not really, but we did drive to Jerome but we had no intentions of finding Maynard or making him be our friend.
We had planned a camping/wine tasting weekend. We camped at a State Park in Cottonwood and had 6 wineries to visit.
The first on the list was in Jerome and was indeed Maynard's. Nice little place, great staff and a variety of wines to choose from. We tried 8 different ones here. Yum. There was another winery in town but we decided to grab lunch instead. Maynards place is called Caduceus. he also has Merkin Vineyards.
The next winery was in downtown Cottonwood. It is called Arizona Stronghold and is a partnership between Maynard and Eric. We tried 5 wines here. Yum.
Now we had only gone to 2 wineries and still had 3 to go. We decided to only go to one more, making it a theme trip. The last winery is called Page Springs. It is Eric's winery and we had been to it before with the Sheaffers. The property is beautiful and the wine is good. We tried 5 wines here. I bought a full glass and we sat on the patio and enjoyed the late afternoon.
3 wineries was plenty for us lightweights.It was a fun day of wine tasting. We headed back to the campsite after dinner in Sedona, and made yummy smores by the campfire and listened to the coyotes howling.
